On August 21st 2024, Greg Stafford MP write to Lord Peter Hendy - Minister for Rail in the Department for Transport - about the need for a bus link to Liphook train station for residents in Bordon and Whitehill.
Greg cited the growing population, incoming new infrastructure and lack of a frequent and reliable service for commuters and rail users in the area.
A full copy of Greg's letter is available to download on this webpage.
Today, on September 4th 2024, Lord Hendy replied to the letter outlining his department's position on the proposals for a new rail-bus link.
In his letter, Lord Hendy wrote: "Several potential bus-rail links to and from Whitehill and Bordon will be explored with local councils, who hold the ultimate responsibility, and Stagecoach as the main local bus operator. There is, for example, already a regular direct bus link between the town and Farnham rail station, which provides a regular connection to London. Other links, such as the one you suggested to Liphook, would offer links to alternative destinations such as Portsmouth and Guildford."
As outlined prior to his election, Greg is supporting the introduction of a new rail-bus link to Liphook and holds the position that the service to Farnham as mentioned by Lord Hendy is not sustainable going forward.
Greg is inviting local residents to complete a survey on his website to contribute to the wider discussion on this matter, and will continue to work with the local authority and other stakeholders going forward.
